Michalis Pasiardis’s Play “I Giallourou” Published as a Book for the First Time

An initiative of the En Lefkosia Cultural Group, which also staged the play of the same name.

As part of its work to preserve and promote Cyprus’s cultural heritage, the En Lefkosia Cultural Group has completed the first official printed edition of the late Michalis Pasiardis’s play “I Giallourou” (ISBN 978-9925-40-000-3).

The publication was produced with the consent of the author’s son, Konstantinos Pasiardis, by CØNNEKT Publications in November 2025 in a print run of 100 copies, with sponsorship from the Tsavliris Cultural Foundation. The CØNNEKT Communication Consultants team—Vasiliki Zinonos and George Constantinou—proofread and edited the text, while Gazing Studio provided the art direction and layout.

The idea for the publication emerged from the group’s research while preparing the stage production of “I Giallourou”. The team discovered that none of Michalis Pasiardis’s plays had been officially published. En Lefkosia therefore undertook the publication so that the work could be preserved and included in the collections of the Cyprus Library and other cultural bodies.

In a note included in the book, the group’s president, Elena Odysseos, says that the publication would not have been possible without actor Neophytos Neophytou, whose archive provided Pasiardis’s theatrical works, and director George Constantinou, who also directed the November 2025 stage production at Flea Theater in Kaimakli, Nicosia, as part of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation’s Amateur Theatre Festival.

Written in 1961 and based on Dimitris Lipertis’s poem of the same name, “I Giallourou” is a landmark of Cypriot social drama. Through Pasiardis’s poetry and dramatic skill, it brings to life the popular spirit, passion and humour of Cypriot life.

The En Lefkosia Cultural Group was established in 2024 through a collaboration between the historic Orfeas Nicosia and Anagennisi Pallouriotissas associations. Its purpose is to promote cultural creation in the capital, old Nicosia, Pallouriotissa and Kaimakli.
